Recipe of the Week - Beef Cannelloni π¨βπ³
Ingredients:
For the Filling:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup (250ml) ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup (250ml) tomato sauce
For the Sauce:
- 2 cups (500ml) tomato passata
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Other Ingredients:
- 12-14 cannelloni tubes
- 2 cups (200g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions:
1. Cook the cannelloni tubes according to the package instructions. Make sure they are al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, sautΓ© until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Season with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
- Stir in ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, and tomato sauce. Mix well. Remove from heat.
3. In a saucepan, combine tomato passata, sugar, dried Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
4. Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
- Spoon the beef and cheese mixture into each cannelloni tube, ensuring they are evenly filled.
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce.
- Arrange the filled cannelloni tubes on top of the sauce.
5. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the cannelloni, ensuring they are well-covered.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
7. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
8. Serve the beef cannelloni hot, and enjoy the delicious combination of savory beef, creamy cheese, and flavorful tomato sauce.
